Who we are
It is a cross-party, pro European, pro-democracy campaign working towards a single seat of the European Parliament.
Brussels is the European Parliament’s headquarters and the EU’s political capital, but Strasbourg is the Parliament’s official ‘seat’. The European Parliament must shuttle between its base in Brussels to Strasbourg to spend 4 days a month which makes it difficult to work effectively and efficiently.
The Single Seat campaign is supported by three quarters of MEPs, and the Parliament’s staff in internal polling. An online petition for a single seat for the European Parliament in Brussels has had 1.27 million signatures from EU citizens since 2007.
The Single Seat campaign is chaired by Anna Maria Corazza Bildt MEP (Moderaterna, Sweden), and 5 Vice-Chairs from the Parliament’s main political groups. It is advised pro bono by international law firm Sidley Austin LLP and strategic communications firm Harwood Levitt Consulting.
What we do
Single Seat provides a platform to raise awareness to national capitals and the Brussels community about the work and ongoing reform to a more efficient Parliament.
The Single Seat campaign supports activities of those MEPs who are working together to bring a Single Seat to the European Parliament, making it a more efficient and accountable institution. Every day, more MEPs sign the Single Seat pledge, and we are looking forward to an exciting campaign!
